The Journal of Ancient Architecture

«The Journal of Ancient Architecture» seeks to fill a gap in current scholarly publications on the Ancient World and Architectural History. The main focus of the Journal is the Ancient Mediterranean region, broadly defined (including Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa), and the period between 1000 BCE and 500 CE. Contributions pertaining to different geographical areas and periods are welcome, particularly if significant from a comparative perspective. Articles may focus on individual buildings, framing the analysis within a larger historical and methodological perspective, or they may address larger issues, including architectural theory, specialized writing and depictions of architecture, architects, patronage, materials and techniques, functions, ancient and post-antique reception, historic preservation, and historiography.
At this stage, the goal for the Journal is to publish one issue per year, with 5-6 contributions, for a total of ca. 200 pp. The preferred language for the contributions is English, but other languages can be accepted, including German, French, and Italian. The preferred length for the contributions is 8,000 words. The format of the Journal will be 21,5×31 cm. The Journal will be published in both printed and digital form, the first with b/w and the second with color reproductions. The digital issue will be available on the platform via IP address. Manuscripts should be sent to cm135[at] and will be subject to peer review by two anonymous readers. The deadline for the submission of manuscripts for the first issue is September 30, 2019.
